Title: Caroline Takes a Chance by Kathleen Ernst, illustrated by Robert Papp

Details: Copyright 2012, American Girl Publishing

Synopsis (By Way of Back Cover):
"Caroline, like everyone else in Sackets Harbor, is waiting anxiously for the first supply boats of the year to arrive, Without the supplies the shipyards can't build boats to fight the British. When Caroline and her friends Rhonda and Seth go out fishing in Papa's skiff, they're excited to catch sight of a supply boat-- until they realize that it's being chased by a British warship! Desperate to save the supply boat, Caroline comes up with a daring idea. Will her plan work? Or is it a dangerous and foolish risk? Caroline has no time to think-- she can only plunge ahead."

Why I Wanted to Read It: Remember my remembrances of the American Girl franchise? And my reviews of the character Kit's six-book series? And my reviews of the character Rebecca's six-book series? And my reviews of the characters Cécile and Marie-Grace's six-book series, my review of Marie-Grace's mystery, and my review of Cécile's mystery? My review of Caroline's first book? And the second? And the third?Okay, then.

How I Liked It: While I've praised this series in the past for its storytelling, this is possibly the most disjointed I've read so far. It's understandable, given the pace of the action and the slightly awkward cues in the plot, but it still stands out, particularly in comparison to the others.

Not much of a change in the illustrations (these tend to be tighter, to focus on character expression) and the "Looking Back" section covers transportation in 1812.
