Okay, although my first thought (being a retail vet and having actually worked for Target) was
"Why punish the people that work in the stores? They aren't the scum that approved that garbage!"
But seeing most the employees in the video delighted and clapping along (and talking to current Target employees that are horrified by the company's actions), I am for this and choreographed dance numbers breaking out in general.
Dammit, Target! Make this shit right! You're a company that it's actually hard to boycott!

Date: 2010-08-28 09:55 am (UTC)That court decision makes me sick and I'm hoping these movements to "shame" corporations into withdrawing donations or just rethinking them catches on. People can more faster than Supreme Court decisions that'll reverse prior ones and I'm so afraid for how 2012 will shape up with corporations showing their political leanings. I'm still shocked how ANYONE on the Supreme Court bench saw that scenario and said, "Let's try it!"
Weird comment, but I honestly thought those kind of decisions were left in the era of the robber barons.
While it pains me like crazy, I'm considering a boycott of Target, even though their prices allow me to get stuff I want and need, especially for my attempts at cooking and getting clothing that flatters me. Why, favorite store, why?
I have to agree with you on the dilemma of involving store workers. It's unfortunate most of them don't have much say (if at all) in policy and when controversy occurs, their the ones wearing the company logo on their shirts, not the executives.

Date: 2010-08-30 06:22 pm (UTC)I wish I was more shocked about the Supreme Court decision, but knowing what a piece of shit Scalia is (and then there's Uncle Thomas, his BFF), it's not much of a shock. Pisses me the fuck off, though.
I think this is such an explosion because Target has always been such a good example and even Consumer Reports rated them the best among the big box stores for donating the most to charity (which is where they SHOULD keep their damn money!) and extending same-sex partner benefits to their employees.
I mean, I can understand if they were really stupid and thought they were making a donation just to a candidate pledging better business policies and not doing the proper research and learning the fucker is a particularly disgusting individual (he apparently has supported a rock group that calls for the execution of homosexuals) beyond even the denial of basic civil rights.
Sigh. Let's hope they're smart enough to issue a REAL apology, take back the donation and donate twice as much to several LGBT friendly organizations.
