I found one of my old sketchbooks (OLD old) and for fun scanned the beejeezus out of it (omitting, of course, the requisite godawful teenage poetry, brimming with the lugubrious lucidity only such a medium has). After being reassured by my love [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] that they weren't all godawful (she actually said they were wonderful but she's biased) I've opened them to the public via my art page or should you choose, my art MySpace.
A sneak preview, you ask? Cleverly assembled? WHY SURE!

Photobucket

That's right, if it existed in my brooding, 15/16-year-old mind and I felt the need to commit it to this particular sketchbook, it's (mostly) here!

Comments are love because I have an ongoing need for acceptance from anyone and everyone and I love you all.

And a note about my moods section: Yes, all my moods are Clara Bow. Yes, the current mood, "artistic", is actually Betty Boop. Why, you ask? Betty Boop was inspired by both Helen Kane and Clara Bow, among other Jazz Age personalities. Therefore, it can be argued that Betty Boop is an artistic rendering of Clara Bow. Also, she's damn cute.

LOOOOOOOVE YOOOOOOOOU ♥

(that picture of la Monroe in the bottom left corner is one of my favourites, and your rendering is gorgeous)

My very very dear, I can but say to you what a wise, damn-near almost American once said to me. Madame, I hope you'll not consider this to be too forward, but I'm rather fond of you and I'd quite enjoy humping your leg.
*hump hump hump hump hump hump hump hump hump*

And I love you, too. Let us celebrate this revelation with the adding of chocolate to milk.

They’re all wonderful! I chuckled because I think I know the source photographs for most of these—verily we were separated at birth. A couple I especially loved:

Three girls, Lana Turner, Bride—lovely!
Woman—that’s no woman, that’s Clara Bow!
Girl—love your use of line in this one (why, yes, I was a pretentious art history major, why do you ask? ;) )
Mirror—This one’s my favorite—the hands and the sense of depth, really great

I love love love Green Louise which is fortunate as it is mine, all mine! Lucky me!

*squee tackle hug!*

Thank you so much, mai dear!!!

Woman—that’s no woman, that’s Clara Bow!

That made me sporfle like Dorothy Parker's assessment of her: "'It'? Hell, she had those."

So I get to thinkin', and look up my source book (my bible in this period), THE MOVIES: The Sixty-Year Story of The World of Hollywood and its Effect on America, From Pre-Nickelodeon Days to the Present (copyright 1957; yes, I still have it and its updated version from 1969) since I can't remember that Clara picture (and since all of mine are digital now, what with me embracing the new century and all, *snort*)I rifle through it again (I'm so bringing it the next time I see you) trying to find that Clara picture and bless my stupid, scribbly little teenage self, it was actually Mae Marsh (thank the Goddess for Google image search and the fact someone had this; I don't think that book could take a scan):

Image

*facepalm* I'm going to excuse my teenage self as being so fixated on my idol that I cast her image over Mae's. *snort* Although the picture I sketched that from was obviously not as blue as this one, you'll notice it still bears almost no resemblance. *shakes head at self*
Oh, misspent youth!

ADDENDUM: *tacklehugs again* Thank you for helping once again boost my self esteem. ^_^

Mae Marsh! Oh, I think the photo looks like Clara--and honestly, didn't all those ingenues look interchangable early in their careers? Clearly you were channelling Clara even at that tender age (nods sagely).

'Tis no problem at all to give you a boost; you are so lovely and talented the only problem is choosing which of your many wonderful attributes to praise first.

ADDENDUM: And yes, I agree during the ingenue period, they did all look tres similiar. Saturday Night Kid which had both Harlow and Clara (who in my opinion couldn't be more dissimilar physically) had Harlow resembling Clara in more than a few shots (albeit a platinum Clara).

I've already flailed over these like the fangirl I am, but I just wanted you to know you're a fantastic artist, and any girl who has a Betty Boop mood was just made for me. =D

(OH! And I has internets!!!! SQUEEEE!)
