Info on This Moon From About Dot Com: March rolls in like the proverbial lion, and if we're really lucky, it might go out like a lamb. It's the time of the Storm Moon, the month when Spring finally arrives, around the time of the Equinox, and we see new life begin to spring forth. As the Wheel of the Year turns once more, heavy rains and gray skies abound -- the earth is being showered with the life-giving water it needs to have a fertile and healthy growing season. This is also a time of equal parts light and darkness, and so a time of balance.
Use this month for magical workings related to rebirth and regrowth. New life is blooming during this phase of the moon, as is prosperity and fertility.

Also known as the Seeds or Worm Moon, the Chaste Moon is a time to plant mental seeds-- thoughts of success and hope. This is also a time of purity and newness. It's the time to bless the magickal herbs and plants in your garden and to start preparing the soil for the seeds that you will plant. It's also the time to mentally prepare yourself for new experiences, a new job, pregnancy, taking a trip, or bringing a new animal into your home.

The Ash Moon is the balancing force that connects all of us with all worlds, seen and unseen. It offers potent energy for healing spells, psychic work, protection in or on water, dream magic, and curse-breaking.

For this ritual you will need an ash limb, or you may wish to decorate and empower a dowel as an ash substitute. Face each direction in turn-- moving clockwise and starting in the west-- while holding the ash wand before you.
Visualize it beating down any curse energy or ill-will being sent your way.

By the ash to all worlds my will does goes,
To those who would curse, I say them, "No!"
The ash protects and absorbs the bane,
Breaking the curse so I'm whole again.

End the ritual by taking the wand outside and placing it on the ground so the negativity will be grounded.

Witches Datebook by Edain McCoy (2003)
In Norse cosmology, the giant ash tree Yggdrasil was the axis point upon which the universe spun. In neighboring Celtic countries it was a wood of balance, containing energy from which wands of personal power were crafted. This is because ash is strong, and even its most slender limbs are hard to break.

Begin your search for an ash limb with which to make your wand well before the Ash Moon. When you find one, sand away its bark and dress it with a light coat of purifying olive oil. Once the oil is absorbed you may decorate the wand to personal taste.

To seal the wand as a tool of personal power, one representing the center point of all creation, dedicate it to its task under the full Ash Moon. Visualize yourself at the center of the universe and ask the Moon's blessings upon the wand. Hold the wand high and see it as a conduit through which all the energy that is, was, or ever will be must pass, so that you can use it in your magic and ritual.

Witches Datebook by Edain McCoy (2004)
The ash wand has long been a favorite of many magical people. The power of ash is in its ability to remain strong and unyielding, and yet appear to change and bend with our magical desires. The ash can help us see things as they are rather than how we want them to be, and this can help us to plan our next step no matter what goals we seek.

Find, buy, or make a wand of ash and spend three nights in meditation over it, asking it to open your mind to the truths that you don't wish to see. Take your favorite divination tool-- tarot cards, runes, etc. -- and wave the ash branch over it three times clockwise, saying:

I call on you, old ash, my friend,
Wood that seems unable to bend;
Strong as a bull, and stubborn as youth,
Help me to see in this the truth.

The old adage tells us, "March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb." In North America, where the world's largest concentration of electrical storms occur, we might not see that lamb until June. During this cycle we are more likely to focus on personal safety rather than the magical potential of cyclones. But the two need not be mutually exclusive.

Include a few magical tools in your storm kit. After security property, pets, and loved ones, you can be together as a family, warding your home and one another from danger. While in the safety of your storm shelter, you can use the counterclockwise energy of the cyclone to help you connect to the attributes of erasing negatives form your lives, thus eliminating your inner-- as well as your outer-- storms.

Get a jump on the dangers of a North American spring by gathering everyone in your household to the family altar on the Storm Moon to weave a spell of protection around your home and all who dwell within.

Witches Datebook by Dallas Jennifer Cobb
The Full Moon of March rains upon us, fertile and strong. Cold soil and soul, warm and awaken, softening in innocence with the first stirring of spring. Reflecting on the future we prepare for the time of fertile readiness by cleansing and blessing the growing ground, sanctifying the soil. The earth is prepared for planting, and the self is readied for change and growth. IN the days before a birth, the mother cleans the nest, preparing for the soon-to-arrive innocent. Operating from instinct and cleansed of illusion, truth guides our choices. The primal self knows what to sew and what to cull. Anticipation, inspiration, and imagination grow, their magical strength beckoning to the seeds of future harvests.

Seed Moon, Plow Moon, Moon of Winds,
Illusions ends as true growth begins,
Hecate, Athene, Astarte, Morrigan,
In pure inspiration the cycle begins again.

Witches Datebook by Elizabeth Barrette
According to the Cherokee, March is the Windy Moon. As winter turns to spring, storms sweep in and damage trees and homes. The Choctaw call this the Big Famine Moon as reserves have been exhausted, but the renewal of life has yet to produce new foods to eat. The Dakota Sioux call this Moon When Eyes are Sore From Bright Snow. On the plains, snow still falls, reflecting the strengthening light of the sun.

March holds the transition between winter and spring, a turbulent time of both hope and danger. Keep a wary eye out for severe weather. On the first warm day, avoid the temptation to run out in light clothes. Instead, dress in layers so you can respond to rapidly changing conditions-- you'll catch fewer colds. Watch for the first signs of returning life, and rake mulch away from spring flowers as they sprout. Offer food to wildlife as long as it's consumed; put out scraps of fabric or string when birds begin to build nests.
In Ritual space, honor the quickening life all around you. Use its burgeoning energy to work magic to empower new projects-- plant young trees, launch a life-oriented business, or explore educational opportunities.

This month can bring turbulent times as the land begins to awaken with the coming spring. Embrace a sense of calm as you welcome the Storm Moon by performing a bath ritual. First prepare an infusion of apple by steeping the slices of apple in hot water until the water is cool; then remove the pieces. Add a few drops of honeysuckle essential oil to the infusion and allow it to sit in the moonlight for as long as you like. If possible, add a bit of fresh rainwater (or melted snow) as well. Visualize the moonlight charging the infusion with energy. This energy is soft, but powerful: gentle, yet persistent. When you're ready, add this infusion to your bath. Alternatively, you can use the infusion in the shower, if you don't have a tub. As you wash, cleanse yourself with moonlight.

Full Moon wrapped in sky's embrace
Full Moon, wash me in your grace
Light cascading from your face
Set me free from time and place.

A safe and happy holiday to all who celebrate~!
