More of the Fifty Books Challenge! This was a loan from my father who knows I enjoy Charles Addams.

Title: National Lampoon's Truly Sick, Tasteless, and Twisted Cartoons by National Lampoon Staff
Details: Copyright 2002, Contemporary Books
Synopsis (By Way of Publication Info): "These cartoons have been previously published in regular and special editions of National Lampoon® magazine."
Why I Wanted to Read It: I do enjoy the cartoons of Charles Addams (the "founder" of sorts, of modern disturbing cartoons) and many of the New Yorker style cartoons and also The Perry Bible Fellowship.
How I Liked It: The cartoons range from almost earnestly urging towards the level of genius of Addams (even to almost aping his style of drawing) and of Nicholas Gurewitch (of The Perry Bible Fellowship) to flat-out stupid humor that isn't even funny stupid humor, it's the forced, gross-out dreck that can decorate "adult" greeting cards, bachelor and bachelorette party decor, and other such depressing paraphernalia. It's Howard Stern or Carlos Mencia trying to be George Carlin and/or Lenny Bruce. There's also a good deal of outright, scummy homophobia, squirm-worthy racism, and sheer misogyny inherent in many of the cartoons (yes, I'm aware that this is National Lampoon).

Women like denying sex!

It's funny because it's true! No wait, it's actually neither of those things.

Get it? Get it?! Also, why do all the "natives" look like Al Jolson in The Jazz Singer?

Ha-ha! QUEER! Look at the Hawaiian shirt!

Ha! The ruler on the wall! So true! Also the cuffs.

Gay men are named Bruce! And note the recurring flowered shirt theme. Oh, is there nothing funnier than a hate crime?
Yeah, between those and the aforementioned bachelor/bachelorette party-styles excruciating "humor", any amusement to be had in the styles of Addams and Gurewitch is lost to the tides.
Notable: Okay, I'm notoriously thick-headed. But what's the joke in this?

The banana seller has stuck them up his ass? All right, but then why is a pharaoh thinking of purchasing one? Little help?
